YAMAHA FG1500

made in  JAPAN...1972

Call it Jacaranda if you want to....I say Brazilian.


What beautiful and intricately made guitars these are. Handmade, I understand....and signed by the building luthier. Must be thousands of pieces in the makeup of this guitar. This FG1500 is number 691.

You can web research and find out what you need to know about these fantastic offerings from that era of Yamaha.....if you don't know about them already. I won't waste your time with my simple speculations. 

I'll start out by telling you what's wrong with this particular one:

A past owner has handled the sides with apparently very acidic hands, or....while he or she had some sort of solvent on them still. Prints can clearly be seen in a few spots of the finish. I believe that finish to be shellac. Also in a couple small places on the backside, it looks like someone tried to remove bits of white paint (that was from a bump against, maybe) with a solvent.

A French polish on this guitar would look great.

There is one significant ding through the finish on the lower treble bout of the top (PIC).

And the biggie......the action is high. A bit less than 3/16" on the bass side at the 12th. The neck had a significant bow when I recieved the guitar, I adjusted the truss rod a total of 1/4 turn over two days. Some of the bow was taken out, but there is still some remaining....I didn't want to adjust it any more than that, myself.

This guitar most likely will need a neck reset. Look at the pics of the neck/fretboard carefully. There is no luthier close to my location that I would trust this job to.

I restrung with Thomastic 11's. This guitar sounds fantastic...such clarity and volume from such a small guitar.

There is no hardcase with this listing, but I have old cases available that will be suitable for shipping.

Again, absolutely beautiful guitar with superb build quality. Wonder what it would cost to have one this intricate built today...nevermind the Brazilian.

There should be no issue for international buyer since this guitar was built in 1972. Visit CITES website to verify.
