Description: 1948 Martin D-28 dreadnought acoustic guitar. This guitar
came to us recently & was in dire need of some TLC. Our master luthier
performed some first class work on the guitar to get it back into great
playing condition. He replaced the bridge plate with a new maple one
& also replaced some missing spruce from under the bridge. He
re-glued the bridge & fitted it with a brand new bone saddle. The
neck was heat pressed to straighten it out a bit. He repaired one of
the top cracks in the body & re-glued some loose bracing inside the
body. He did a stellar job overall, and the guitar plays & sounds much
better than it did when we first got it.

Cosmetic Condition:
Various nicks, chips, dents & dings; surface scratches & some
light buckle rash. There are some repaired cracks in the body (both top
& back) & there's one crack in the back, near the center seam
that is about 6" long that has not been repaired. That crack does not
penetrate all the way through the wood, but there is movement when
pressure is applied. The ebony bridge has two dowels on either side
of its top where the previous owner must have screwed it down to the top of the
guitar. Both holes were filled (not by our luthier) which explains the
damage to the bridge plate he needed to replace. There is a hole in the
treble side of the body where a previous input jack had been. We have
left the hole as is.

Neck: Soft V-shape mahogany neck with some
light flaming in it. You don't typically see mahogany necks with flame,
but this one definitely has some. We tried to capture it in our
photos, but it was difficult due to the lighting & angle of the
camera. Ebony fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays. The guitar has
been refretted with med-jumbo frets which are in great condition & show hardly any wear. Original Kluson Deluxe tuners are in perfect working
condition. 1 11/16" nut width; 25 1/2" scale length.

Body:
Dreadnought size body with multi-bound top & back. Solid spruce top
(possibly Adirondak) with solid Brazilian Rosewood back & sides.
There's some really beautiful variegation in the rosewood, with lots of
swirls & chocolate/orange colors. The oversize tortoise-style pickguard is obviously
not original, but appears to have been on for so long we felt it best
to leave it alone rather than ruin the top.

Set Up: Professionally set up by our luthier & strung with brand new Martin Phosphor Bronze med-light gauge strings.

Playability
/ Sound: Nice, low action - the neck is very comfortable & easy to
play up & down the fingerboard. The guitar has a big sound - very loud & projects well.
Tonally I would say the guitar is more on the brighter side with not a
lot of emphasis on the bass. But still very sweet sounding & lots
of fun to play.
