1939 MARTIN D-18 PRE WAR ACOUSTIC FLAT TOP GUITAR ALL ORIGINAL BEAUTIFUL

For your consideration is this extraordinarily nice and all original 1939
Martin D-18 serial number 72636. Although relatively early 1939 it has the
later back X brace pattern (about 2 inches from sound hole) not the forward X
brace pattern (about 1 inch from sound hole). Fantastic crack free instrument
(tiny one maybe not by edge of face treble side pictured, and typical bridge
drying cracks) no top cracks, no guard cracks, no neck cracks, no side cracks,
no back cracks. Original bridge is all there never sanded, flat and down,
original saddle is also all there not cut or notched, the spruce top is flat,
no belly at all factory flat. The original neck angle to the body is very good,
typically high factory action about 3/16" 12th fret bass side, about
1/8" 12 fret treble side. All interior braces look correct and original,
secure and tight. Original hard nickel silver frets display minor wear,
original ebony fingerboard has minor finger wear first couple of frets only.
Neck and fingerboard are very straight the action is reasonable. The original
nut has worn slightly low culminating in an open string buzz first fret only a
couple of strings only. The crack free back does have some finish damage as a
result of leaving a strap or something in the case which has fused with and
textured the original finish, cosmetic only. The back of the neck displays
normal usage culminating in finish wear first third of back of neck. The
overall cosmetic condition is very good to excellent but there are plenty of
scratches and pressure marks everywhere (pictured). On the back and the face I
even see some handwritten words pressed into the finish as if someone was using
the guitar to write on and the pencil or pin left a shallow impression though
the paper, nice maybe they should use a desk next time. This instrument was
purchased from second owner who had it since the 1960's, all we know is that he
was a singing prison guard at Folsom Prison with wanderlust according to
surviving family members. The original case is long gone but the guitar is here
in spades. We have a cheap hard shell case probably several years old and
imported that was included when we bought the instrument. This guitar should
possibly ship in a better case as we know the value will be up there. By the
way, when I purchased this instrument from the lovely people that owned it, I
tuned it to pitch and played it with the aging strings still on, OMG. People
want these for all the right reasons, it just sounds fantastic, sweet high end
beautiful rich bass, but still very articulate and clear, you can hear ever
string in ever chord. Spectacular, I have another one slightly newer war era,
this one kills it. I'm not sure why exactly but not having the forward bracing
pattern doesn't seem to be hurting this one at all. A fantastic instrument as
well as investment, there's nothing better than a 1930's era Martin, this one
is exceptional. Bad hard shell case included.
