It seems like a hairbrain thing for me to have to mention, however i have been burned to many times by auction winners that want me to wait a week or more for them to get their paycheck or scramble the funds together etc..., if you cannot pay for an item then DO NOT BID, if anyone cannot afford to pay for any Ebay item then you have no business bidding in the first place. Hello all, up for bid is my Vintage Alvarez Yairi DY-85, the stamp on the label in the soundhole (pictured) appears to me to 78(1978) a collector friend of mine believes that the '7' is actually an extra ( / ) right slash, and that its an 81 (1981) with the '1' being being covered slightly by the DY-85 stamp, ive looked at the label every which it can be looked at, and its not legible enough to tell IMHO, the serial no. is #23354, so take a look at the pic and perhaps you may know. In a Bluebook, they listed the triple split burled mahogany back and side verions of the DY-85 as being mid to late 70s. The only nonoriginal part  on this guitar is the 'G' string tuner (top right), the replacement is also a Grover and similar style, but chrome instead of gold plate, and doesnt have the bulls-eye cap as on the originals. It has the St. Louis Music Plate on the back of the headstock, as they were the primary distributors of the early high-end Alvarez's back in the day. Those looking probably know that these are a Martin D-45 copy, this one has the triple split back of burled mahogany ,as opposed to most that ive seen with the split Rosewood back.Canadian spruce top, abalone and celluloid bound body and soundhole, tortoise-shell pickguard,mahogany sides,three piece burled mahogany/rosewood/burled mahogany back, nato mahogany neck, 14/20-fret ebony
fingerboard with abalone inlay, ebony bridge, internal lacquering, 3-per-side gold Grover tuners, (one replaced). It also has a very sharp volute on the neck which is very cool."C" profile neck, 1 11/16" neck width. And of course the beautiful Abolone D-45 style neck inlay. It has very little fretwear, some indentation on the lower 5th fret and down but nothing that hinders playability in any way, it wont need a fret job for a very long time. I have the action set fairly low, and she seems to like it as there is not buzz or noise, plays as perfect as ive ever played. I have played on quite a few Martin D-45s, and this one sounds every bit as good, better in some cases. As you can see in the photos, it is not pristine by any means, i attempted to illustrate with the pics the nicks and scratches as best i could, so please understand this is not a collectors piece, it is a players guitar. I have had countless offers to buy this Yairi, and would never sell. i have seen these sell up to the $1300 range, and i understand this one has some scratches, however the sound and playability are 2nd to none, and it has no structural deformities at all. The workmanship of these Yairis are very hard to find in an acoustic in this price range, and buyer will not be disappointed. Unfortunately no case with this one, but i'll pack it to the max..i can also try and find a used inexpensive case if buyer wishes, and charge only actual cost.If this one doesnt sell, its not going to be relisted. When i bought it some years back i paid a pretty penny for it even back then, and i know with the starting price it is worth every penny. So needless to say, if it doesnt sell so be it. Due to a recent hip surgery which has created a cash flow issue i am forced to sell some of my gear.
