Without a doubt this is the best sounding clean and original Jumbo Gibson guitars I have played. Over the years I have had several old Gibson J-35 and J-45 Gibson guitars. This particular Vintage Gibson (serial# U-8998) has the broadest tonal range I have heard in an old Gibson, going from very deep bass to clear thick trebles and also very loud. Wrap all this in a 16" wide, 5' deep, 53 year old acoustic Jumbo that has never had a need for repairs or regluing of any bracing and you get pure power and tone. And it plays perfect. It NEEDS NOTHING. This one can hang with my prewar D-18 and has unusually good presence and cut.
I looked inside with mirror and light and all is just as the day it left the factory. Even the original small maple bridgeplate is in perfect condition. Notice that this one fortunately came from the factory with the much better bone saddle bridge design and not the tone killing adjustible bridge that was optional and more common. No cracks anywhere, never even had a strap button added to the neck. Brazilian Rosewood bridge and fretboard, Solid Honduras Mahogany body woods, Spruce top.
The neck is a nice fat (but not to fat) contour with perfect action all the way to the last fret. The saddle could actually be raised for many styles but it plays so good right now with medium strings. Rock and Roll, Bluegrass, Jazz, Fingerstyle,... you name it this guitar is the perfect old Gibson.
HISTORY: When purchased, I drove up to northern Indiana where this guitar came from the son of the original owner. He said this is the old case that it came home in when his dad bought it in 1957. The only wear is a little bit of finish flake at the area where your right arm lays on the side while strumming and then the few dings you see on the photos. There is all the normal finish checks from head to toe. These are the absolute normal for old Gibson guitars. It is just a beautiful very well preserved vintage Gibson guitar and one of the best sounding at that.
A Gibson in this shape is $6000 + at the big Vintage stores, but this one goes to the lucky winner + $55 for shipping and insurance in the lower 48 states. International shipping will be actual cost likely around $100. Paypal is great. Bid with confidense as I have 12+ years of absolute perfect feedback. Guitar will be professionally packed. Check out the photos and feel free to email questions.
